For seven years we provided wooden nuc boxes. They were sturdy, stackable, and useful for many beekeeping needs - but required manually stapling screens over entrances for transport and were problematic in high ambient temperatures.
Last year we tested rigid plastic boxes manufactured for the Jester Bee Company (not to be confused with the waxed cardboard boxes commonly used). They're light and durable with a built-in entrance closure. They provide plenty of ventillation for the long drives many of our customers make and the white surface deflects the hot sun.
